Installation
Installing Retriqs is simple.
For most users, you only need to install the desktop app, open it, and create your first storage.
Last updated: April 4, 2026
Prerequisites
- A working installation of the Retriqs app
Standard installation
- Download the latest Retriqs installer.
- For Windows, run the
.exeinstaller. For macOS, open the.dmgfile and drag Retriqs to your Applications folder. - Launch the app after installation is complete.
That is the full installation process for normal users.
What happens after installation
After the app is installed, Retriqs starts with an empty environment. Before you can upload documents or query anything, you must create a storage.
Your first working setup looks like this:
- Install Retriqs
- Open the app
- Create a storage
- Configure the provider settings for that storage
- Upload documents
- Start indexing
- Query your data
Important: create a storage first
A fresh installation does not automatically give you a ready-to-use knowledge base.
Before you can use Retriqs, you need to create a storage. The storage is the place where Retriqs keeps your indexed data, graph state, vector data, and processing state.
Without a storage, there is nothing to upload to and nothing to query.
What the installer includes
The desktop installer is intended to provide a ready-to-run experience.
It includes:
- the Retriqs desktop app
- the bundled backend
- the built interface
In normal usage, you do not need to manually install Python, Bun, or start the server yourself.
After installation
Once Retriqs is installed:
- Open the app
- Create a storage
- Configure your provider settings
- Upload your files
- Wait for indexing to finish
- Start using Retriqs
